Expert Guidance for Your Remodel or Renovation

 _

We all love to be king or queen of our castle. But sometimes the castle needs remodeling or renovating.

Meanwhile, venturing out into the dangerous world of contracting without a guide often doesn't end well. You'll have to lower your draw bridge and let the contractors in. If you've seen Game of Thrones, you know that story doesn't end well. Yikes!

Let Remodel Academy guide you toward your new castle!

As a Certified Remodeling Project Manager, my mission is to empower homeowners with the knowledge, tools, coaching and free content to effectively manage their remodeling and renovation projects.

I understand you have questions, both about your project and how Remodel Academy can help.

That's why I offer a Free 15-Minute no-obligation Phone Call or Zoom Session to explore how Remodel Academy can be of service to you and your project.

Here's a quick overview of the 3 phases of home remodeling and renovation that Builder Bill at Remodel Academy can help you through:

  • Pre-Construction - You are mostly on your own to begin with - at least until you hire an architect or designer. The choices you make here set you up for success - or failure. The best investment you could possibly make here is learning to be your own project manager.

  • Construction - Even though you have a general contractor or sub-contractors working for you at this point, you're far from home-free. Your ability to manage everyone working for you is critical for getting the results you deserve.

  • Close-Out - I often hear that this the most frustrating part for homeowners. There's an old Chinese saying that goes, "when you're 90 percent done, you're halfway there". Contractors are often hardest to motivate when they're mostly paid and frustrating details get put off. Don't let the way a project ends ruin the whole experience.

These 3 phases can then be broken up into the following steps.  Remodel Academy can help with any or all of these topics:

Pre-Construction

  • Planning

  • Finding and vetting builders

  • Deciding whether a general contractor or design-build firm is best for you

  • Budgeting and accounting for your project

  • Design ideas and reviewing designs

  • Reviewing the process and benefits of going solar

  • Reviewing contracts or documents (Please note that I am NOT an attorney)

  • Composing a Request for Proposal and reviewing bids

  • Scheduling and time estimates

  • Making sure you don't get ripped off

Construction

  • How to effectively work with your builder

  • Making sure your builder meets their obligations

  • Reviewing any change orders that come up

  • Reviewing project accounting

  • Answering contractor questions (Requests for Information)

  • Communication and record keeping

  • Tracking the budget and schedule

  • Ensuring quality and reviewing work in progress

  • Lien releases

Close of Project

  • Ensuring completion of contracted scope of work

  • End of project punch list items

  • Warranties

  • Close Out documents

  • Lien Releases

  • Contractor Obligations

  • Final Payments
